Asking Our Loving Heavenly Father

In Matthew, chapter 7, Jesus talks about asking, seeking, and knocking to obtain what we need from the Father in heaven. James, chapter 4 speaks of not having because we do not ask. God is the Great Provider. I know He has met my needs each and every time I have asked. Many times He has met my needs through other people.

How can God give us all the good things He wants to give us as individuals if we are unwilling to ask of Him? The same question is true for Eagles’ Wings. How can we expect to provide everything we need for camp if we don’t ask of Him?

We could not minister to the needs of those we serve if it weren’t for God’s work through generous people like you. Will you join us in our prayers to Him for the work of Eagles’ Wings and that He might lead individuals to sponsor one of our current needs. He is always faithful. Thank you for being part of what He is doing in the lives of the families and youth of Eagles’ Wings.

Writing the Story

Had I not the benefit of Henry Blackaby’s revelation of God’s word which produced the 12 week group Bible study Experiencing God in 1990, I might lay claim to credit for at least a small portion of that which is Eagles’ Wings Youth Ranch. The rest I might give to my precious husband Albert Lawrence Hagan. However, God, in His wisdom and perhaps good humor, had me in that study not once but three times over the course of the decade 1990-2000.

By the time the concept of a summer camp in a ranch setting began materializing in our minds and hearts, we could not but see ourselves as merely minor part actor and  actress in what clearly was His story. Not long after we were first able to recognize this we could not restrain ourselves. We began the telling and retelling as each new revelation of God came through His provision after provision for this ministry.

One day we heard the words for the first time, “You need to write a book about Eagles’ Wings Youth Ranch.” This encouragement, repeated over the course of several years as more and more heard the story and there was more and more of the story to tell, finally caused me to start writing. After approximately 19 chapters, I stopped almost as abruptly as I began. Now several years later, the Lord has given me strength to continue.

I am setting aside at least an hour per day, five days per week and, with the help of the Holy Spirit and Albert’s wonderful files, have completed most of 39 chapters. The goal is to have the project completed and edited for publication by the end of the year. Please pray for me as I write and that God will receive all glory!

20 Years and God is Faithful

In April 1992, the old abandoned piece of land, which once flourished as a pinto bean field, stretched out before us, empty and brown except for the tiny green six inch cedars sparsely spread across the 40 acres. To the unknowing eye, its only redeeming quality seemed to be the purple mountain majesty view to the west. But God had a plan to redeem that which had been forsaken and to use it for His glory.

Now some twenty years later, I look out a window to the north and see six horses basking in the sunlight as yet another spring dawns on the ever changing landscape of that piece of    property which became Eagles’ Wings Youth Ranch. Nearby stands a large barn and a shop building. Just beyond the north fence line, 9 cows and one bull search for the first sprigs of green grass on the additional 310 acres leased by the ranch. A top of the line ropes course rises above the roof of the two story 4,000 square foot ranch house and the uppermost limbs of a variety of tall evergreen and deciduous trees which have reached maturity. To the south of the ranch house, I see the outdoor recreation pavilion (which also houses a game room), the   bunkhouse, three other staff homes, and two storage sheds. Seven huge buildings and three small ones in twenty years! God is faithful!

Missing from this scene is the love of my life, Albert Lawrence Hagan, the one to whom God so graciously gave the vision. Missing also are the voices of the 800 plus campers and their families whose lives God ordained to intersect with the ranch through the years. Present, for now, is only one camper. In this the twentieth year, this one returned on February 19th. Obviously not for summer camp, nor for another event sponsored by the ranch, but for refuge from the storms of his young life. He is thriving and growing by the power of the Holy Spirit on this place. God is faithful!

In those twenty years, all of the dreams for Eagles’ Wings Youth Ranch placed on Albert’s heart ranging from something as small as a putt/putt golf course to the beginnings of a strong follow-up ministry have been realized. As he committed himself to waiting on the Lord rather than going into debt, not once were we wanting for anything financially. God is faithful!

Now we sense God directing us to trust His faithfulness even more as He leads us into the next twenty years. As we reach this one for Jesus Christ, we need mentors to join us in reaching the other “ones”. God has begun a good work in the lives of so many. He is the One Who is faithful to complete it! Is He calling you to join Him as he did us twenty years ago?

“Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to Your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.”    Psalm 115:1 (NIV)
